Professional lighting technology, control and applications
Professional lighting is organised by what each fixture does with the beam. Profiles shape and project patterns, Fresnels build washes that blend into one another and PARs flood an area with saturated colour, while moving heads, battens and effects add movement; the starting point for choosing between them is the types of professional lanterns and their optical behaviour.
On that foundation sits the control layer: professional lighting consoles and desks, DMX and network protocols, power distribution and previsualisation. And around it, the day-to-day reality of the sector: the selection and maintenance of the lighting equipment stock, lighting rental for productions that would rather not tie up their own kit, and the lighting technician training that underpins both live work and fixed installation.
The outcome changes with the destination of the project: in live performance, rigging speed and programming carry the weight; in fixed installation, it is service life, power consumption and maintaining the system over the years.
