The Bose Professional stadium sound system installed at the Estadio Municipal de El Alto in Bolivia is built around ArenaMatch loudspeakers, PowerMatch amplification and Dante distribution. The Estadio Municipal de El Alto, known as El Titán de Villa Ingenio, holds roughly 21,000 spectators and is home to Always Ready as well as one of the venues used by the Bolivian national team.
Its location is a serious challenge for any technical installation. Wind, rain and sub-zero temperatures all act on equipment that has to work reliably through matches and events held in the open air. Altitude compounds it: thinner air changes how loudspeaker components dissipate heat and how sound propagates across a large open bowl.
The ground’s technology refresh covered lighting, a large-format screen and a new Bose Professional stadium sound system, part of a wider upgrade aimed at securing the CONMEBOL certification required to host international competition.
The project was carried out by M&R Representaciones, a Bolivian audio integration specialist, supported by USV Trade, the official Bose Professional distributor in Bolivia. The technical design was led by Román Gordillo Rioja, of M&R Representaciones, working with Rolando Kadima Villazón and the USV Trade specialists.
ArenaMatch AM40 modelled to cover the stands, not the pitch
The system was designed in Modeler, the Bose Professional acoustic simulation software used to study how sound behaves in the space, fix loudspeaker positions and define the aiming angles needed for even coverage.
The final solution uses 14 Bose Professional ArenaMatch AM40 loudspeakers distributed around the ground: three in the south curve, three in the north curve, four in the general stand and four more in the premium section.
Each AM40 was aimed according to the Modeler results, concentrating acoustic energy on the seating areas and cutting spill towards the pitch. In a stadium that distinction is not cosmetic. Energy that lands on the playing surface returns as reflection, blurs the direct sound reaching the far stands and costs intelligibility exactly where announcements matter most.
The ArenaMatch DeltaQ family is developed specifically for outdoor installations such as stadiums and arenas. The enclosures are built for weather exposure, with stainless steel grilles, water protection and weather-resistant external finishes.
PowerMatch PM8500N, Dante and two control rooms
The stadium sound system is completed by four Bose Professional PowerMatch PM8500N amplifiers, installed across two independent control rooms.
The amplifiers carry DSP and Dante expansion cards, so audio travels over the IP network and processing happens inside the amplifiers themselves. That shortens the signal chain and removes the need for external processors — worth having in a building where every additional rack unit is another item to reach in bad weather.
The physical installation had to answer the conditions of the altiplano as well. The ArenaMatch cabinets were mounted under the roof overhang on reinforced steel brackets, specified to handle both wind gusts and the thermal swing between day and night.

What CONMEBOL certification asks of a stadium sound system
In early 2024 the system went through the technical review tied to CONMEBOL certification of the Estadio Municipal de El Alto.
The tests covered sound pressure, coverage of the stands and speech intelligibility. According to Román Gordillo Rioja, the inspectors responded immediately once they heard the system working. Approval allowed the ground to host international fixtures and to establish itself as one of the principal sporting venues in Bolivia.
These are the metrics that separate a stadium installation from a concert rig. A certification body is not asking for musicality; it is asking whether an evacuation announcement will be understood in every seat while a full house is making noise.
Since it was commissioned the Bose Professional system has worked through matches with high crowd noise from the stands, one of the standing difficulties for any sound installation intended for a football ground.
